Tallahassee firefighters recall life-saving rescue

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Firefighters who pulled a mother and her children from a burning home earlier this week spoke with WCTV Wednesday about their mission.

Inside the apartment were two children, who were coughing and crying, while their mother was unconscious. The firefighters were able to carry them to safety.

"When you know there's a victim inside, to be able to make that rescue and preserve life, that's so much more. And, to know that everybody's okay is a great thing," said Captain Jeff Lawhon.

"In the 25-plus years I've been doing this, this is the most successful rescure I've been involved in, as far as a fire goes," added Lt. Brian Atkinson.

The firefighters came from Station 1, Station 4 and Station 8.
