TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A Tallahassee man is facing aggravated battery charges, accused of shooting another man during a dispute.
The Tallahassee Police Department says in the early morning hours on August 9, officers spoke with the victim in the emergency room. The victim had suffered a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The victim told police he had driven to an apartment complex in the 100 block of White Drive to hang out with a group of people, including the suspect, 25-year-old Dontarius Turner.
The victim said he asked to borrow Turner's cellphone and accidentally put it into his own pocket when he was done with the call. When the victim tried to return the phone to Turner, the suspect reportedly accused the victim of trying to steal it.
The two men began to physically fight, removing some of their clothing as they grappled with one another. The victim told police he saw Turner remove a handgun from his waistband and place it down on the ground with his clothing.
According to arrest documents, Turner became angry when the victim struck him in the head. Turner then walked over to where his clothing was lying on the ground, picked up the gun and pointed it at the victim.
The victim said as he began to turn away from the suspect, Turner fired one shot at him. Turner then ran to his car and drove away from the area.
Turner was taken into custody on Wednesday on charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
