TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A Tallahassee man has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after officers say he threatened to kill his roommate with a bow and arrow.

24-year-old Joseph Hight told officers with the Leon County Sheriff's Office that he was upset over text messages he found between his wife and his roommate.

Hight said when he confronted his roommate about the text messages, his roommate grabbed two machetes and threatened to kill him. Hight said he retrieved his bow and arrow in self-defense, but did admit to making verbal threats to kill his roommate.

Hight's wife and his roommate said that Hight was not acting in self-defense when he grabbed the bow and arrow.

Hight's wife told officers that her husband made verbal threats to kill the roommate, and advanced towards him as to attack him. Hight's wife also said that Hight pointed the bow and arrow directly at the roommate as he continued to threaten to kill him.

The roommate admitted to picking up the machetes in self-defense, but said he never threatened Hight or approached him with the weapons.

Hight admitted to making verbal threats towards his roommate when he first spoke with officers, but later denied it.

Hight was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and was transported to the Leon County Jail without incident.
