TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The owner of a tax preparation business in Tallahassee has been arrested, accused of filing nearly 30 false tax returns.
33-year-old John Jean-Gilles, of Midway, was formally charged on Friday with 27 counts of aiding in preparing false tax returns, four counts of wire fraud and aggravated identify theft. He is the owner of USA Tax and Multi-Services, LLC, in Tallahassee.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida, Jean-Gilles prepared federal income tax returns which falsely reported the taxpayer’s income, withholding, credits and the refund due for tax years 2012-2015. He's also accused of using the social security number and preparer tax identification number of another person.
Jean-Gilles faces a maximum of 25 years behind bars. A trial is scheduled to begin April 15.
The charges were brought against Jean-Gilles following an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service and the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office.
