Teen arrested in Valdosta armed robbery, second suspect at large

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- The Valdosta Police Department has arrested one suspect, and is looking for another, in an armed robbery.

VPD says around 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, two teenagers were walking in the 2500 block of Bailey Drive when two people began to approach them from behind. The victims told police the two demanded that the teens give them their possessions.

Police say one suspect pulled out a handgun as he demanded items from the victims, and both suspects fled the scene after the robbery.

After an investigation into the incident, VPD identified one of the suspects as 18-year-old Ernest Smith. He was arrested and charged with armed robbery, robbery by sudden snatching and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Officials are still trying to locate the second suspect.
