THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WCTV) -- Law enforcement and Search and Rescue respond to a reported drowning at Cherokee lake in Thomasville.

At around 6:00 on Saturday evening, witnesses say they saw a man possibly drowning in that lake, but by the time first responders arrived, the victim could not be found.

Officials say that witnesses tried saving the man but were unsuccessful, that’s when the rescue team was activated and at around 8:00 pm, the body of a male was recovered and brought to shore.

Major Eric Hampton of Thomasville PD says the victim has not yet been identified.

Thomasville Fire Department, Thomasville Police Department, and the Georgia State Patrol also assisted in the recovery. Officials say are still investigating how or why the victim went into the water in the first place.
