THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WCTV) -- The Thomasville Police Department has issued a warning after recieveing numerous calls regarding clown sightings in the community.

This, the latest in a string of sightings nationwide involving individuals dressing up as clowns and committing crimes.

Thomasville police say while no one has been connected to any of the local clown sightings, any suspicious activity outside of the Halloween holiday should be reported.

A statement from Thomasville Police reads, "Outside of a sanctioned event or holiday, it is illegal for someone to wear any mask so as to conceal their identity. Those in violation of this law can and will be charged with a misdemeanor. We are asking that the community call the police department immediately when they sight individuals wearing what appear to be clown costumes."

Police also say they don't recommend anyone pulling Halloween pranks with clown costumes.

TPD says citizens can call (229) 226-2101 to report incidents involving this activity.
