SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Florida Highway Patrol says three people suffered serious injuries in a Christmas Eve crash in Suwannee County.
The crash happened Sunday at 1:20 p.m. on US Highway 129 and 122nd Street.
According to FHP, a driver in a Chevy Colorado was traveling southbound on US Hwy 129 and a driver in a Kia Sorento was traveling northbound, both approaching the intersection of 122nd Street.
Troopers say the Chevy began to make a left turn onto 122nd Street and failed to yield the right of way to the Kia, striking the front left side of it.
The driver of the Chevy and three of the passengers, including two children, suffered minor injuries. A fourth passenger, 26-year-old Kayla Watts, of Live Oak, was taken to Shands UF Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the Kia, 47-year-old Melinda Lewis, of Lake City, and the passenger, 27-year-old Karen Stewart, of Branford, both suffered serious injuries and were taken to Shands UF Hospital.
FHP says all parties involved were wearing seat belts.
Troopers say charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
