LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- A National Weather Service survey team confirms a tornado caused the extensive damage in the Baum Road area of eastern Leon County Sunday evening.
The NWS says the twister hit around 8:15 p.m. The team estimates it was an EF-3 tornado, meaning winds reached at least 140 miles per hour.
The weather service says it will have more detailed information on the tornado’s path, wind speed and size after it compiles the results of its ground survey.
The Leon County Sheriff’s Office says 10 homes saw significant damage, and half are destroyed. Two people in the area were injured and taken to the hospital, but their injuries are not life-threatening.
