MAYO, Fla. (WCTV) -- Lafayette lost just three times last year to accompany their eight-win season, but were unable to finish in the top two of their district, and in turn, missed out on the playoffs.

But, with district play now gone for smaller schools, the Hornets and head coach Joey Pearson like their chances of making the playoffs in 2017.

The big thing for the Hornets now, though, is finding some new linebackers, after losing two to season ending injuries.

"We lost two seniors to injury this spring," coach Pearson said, "So we've got to find some depth at linebacker. That's our number one goal."

Coach Pearson also notes, while there's some comfort with the personnel on the offensive side of the ball, he and his coaching staff are still trying to "put people in the right spot," on defense.
