VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Valdosta City Manager Larry Hanson is retiring from his position with the City after 22 years.

Hanson has accepted a position as Executive Director of the Georgia Municipal Association, where he will oversee the advocacy, training and various programs for more than 500 Georgia cities.

In a statement, Hanson said, "I am humbled and honored to be appointed as the Executive Director of GMA. Having been an active member for many years, I value GMA’s commitment to serving Georgia’s cities and to advocacy, training and high quality programs for its members. I look forward to serving with GMA’s Board of Directors and its professional staff to continue to influence positive change for Georgia’s cities and the citizens we serve."
