VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Flyers at Valdosta Regional Airport are getting a boost to their travel experience as a new passenger bridge is now in place.
The new passenger bridge connects the newly-constructed lobby to the airplane. It means passengers will no longer have to walk outside across the concrete in order to board the waiting plane.
, with a price tag of close to $1.4 million. It includes a new lobby, as well as nearly $900,000 for extending the passenger bridge.
Flyers will walk through the new lobby and on to the bridge. The structure can move and rotate to meet right up to the planes ready to board. Airport officials said this helps improve safety for everyone.
"If we can get our passengers out of the weather and up off the ground away from all those moving parts, all those tugs and baggage carts, that's what we want to do," said Jim Galloway, Airport Manager and Executive Director.
Right now, airline staff are training how to use the passenger bridge. Airport officials hope to have it ready for passengers in the next couple of weeks.
