Valdosta man killed when car runs stop sign

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- A Valdosta man was killed Wednesday afternoon when his car was hit by another vehicle that had run a stop sign.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened just after 12:30 p.m. at the intersection of Loch Laurel Road and Carroll Ulmer Road in Lowndes County.
The crash report states that an 18-year-old driver in a Chrysler 200 was traveling east on Carroll Ulmer Road when she failed to brake at a stop sign. The Chrysler traveled into the intersection and struck the driver's side of a Nissan Altima that was heading north on Loch Laurel Road.
The driver of the Altima, 40-year-old Rahsaan Simon, of Valdosta, was pronounced dead at the scene. GSP says he was not wearing a seat belt, and the airbags in his car did not deploy..
The driver of the Chrysler was transported to Archibold Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
GSP says an investigation into the collision is still open.
