Valdosta man dies at hospital following Tuesday shooting

VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Police say a man who was shot Tuesday in Valdosta has died.

According to the Valdosta Police Department, Kenyan Devon Wright, 27, died around 7 a.m. Wednesday at South Georgia Medical Center.

Wright was shot several times at a home in the 700 block of E. Jane Street early Tuesday morning.

Investigators say his body has been taken to the Valdosta/Lonwdes Regional Crime Laboratory for an autopsy by a medical examiner.

Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident and that the residence was targeted for drug-related reasons.

Officials say that the investigations is ongoing and anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact VPD.

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Valdosta police say a man is in critical condition after he was shot multiple times early Tuesday morning.

Police say they responded around 3 a.m., at the 700 block of East Jane Street across from Ora Lee Housing.

Investigators were still working the scene nearly six hours later.

VPD Chief Brian Childress says recently they've seen a lot of crime around this area.

“It comes and goes. You have hot spots in any city. Right now, this is the hot spot", says Chief Childress. "We’ll do what we can. I’m very confident in my detectives and my officers, so we’ll find them. We’ll catch them.”

He says substantial evidence has given them a strong lead to who the suspect might be, but aren't currently ruling out any other possible suspects.

Investigators believe the incident is drug-related.

The man was taken to South Georgia Medical Center, and his name is not being released at this time.
