Island Lava Turnover

1 jumbo pack of biscuit dough
¼ cup Strawberry Preserve (Jam)
¼ cup Mango Preserve (Jam)
2 TBSP Pineapple Preserve (Jam)
½ Teaspoon Hawaiian Black Lava Spice made by Hot Garlic Clove Company [find it here or at various HomeGoods and TJMaxx stores]
Oil (If frying) / Non Stick Spray if Baking
Aluminum foil
½ cup all purpose flour (for Frying method)
For Garnish (optional)
4 oz Cream Cheese
1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 TSP Milk

Step 1 – Preheat Oven to 350 degrees If baking then line and grease pan – You may also opt to line pan with parchment paper o IF frying pour oil to approximately 1” depth and heat on medium low – you may also choose to heat the oil on a medium high and remove from heat then fry – I’ve found this method to be just as successful

Step 2 – In a Bowl combine preserves – then add spice (to taste)

Step 3 – Slice each biscuit dough in half horizontally and using the ball of hands or rolling pin spread thinner into a larger circle (approximately 4”)

Step 4 – Fill the center of each of the dough circles being careful not to fill to edges so that the turnover can be sealed and keep the filling inside

Step 5 – Once the middle has been filled, use a dab of water to wet the edges of the dough then fold the dough in half to create a half moon

Step 6 – Using a fork, seal the edges of the turnover by pressing the fork down to prevent filling from escaping.

Step 7 – If Frying – dust the turnover lightly using flour then drop in oil. Be sure to watch these carefully and flip every 2 minutes to ensure an even golden color as well as to be certain it cooks thoroughly. Frying should take approximately 8 min.

Bake for approximately 15 minutes .

Garnish with Cream Cheese Glaze or Powdered sugar.

Cream Cheese Glaze:

- Use an electric mixer to beat cream cheese and vanilla until smooth. Once smooth slowly add in powdered sugar, then milk. If the mixture is not soft enough to drizzle add milk ½ table spoon at a time.
