Maple Walnut Spiced Cookies

(Yields 2 dozen cookies)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 large egg
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 tablespoon milk
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped, roasted

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Cream together brown sugar, butter, maple syrup, and egg in a stand mixer with the paddle attachment on medium speed until combined.

Combine flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and cloves into a large bowl and mix well. Add to wet ingredients until dough is formed. Form 1-tablespoon sized balls onto a parchment paper lined cookie sheet; bake 8–11 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on cooling rack.

Whisk powdered sugar, syrup, and milk in a bowl, to make a glaze. Glaze cooled cookies then top with walnuts. Serve.
