TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) — FAMU head coach Willie Simmons said multiple times throughout the week that the outcome of last week's heartbreaking loss to Jackson State would have no barring on this Saturday's MEAC Conference opener.
He was certainly right.
The Rattlers defeated Savannah State, 31-13, on Saturday to advance to 2-2 on the season. 28 of their 31 points were scored in the second half.
Quarterback Ryan Stanley recovered nicely from two first half interceptions; he found running back Bishop Bonnet on a short pass up the middle in the third quarter for the Rattlers' first touchdown of the game. Bonnett finished with 159 all-purpose yards and two scores.
Simmons' team never looked back. They scored fourteen points in both the third and fourth quarter to seal the deal.
FAMU will now prepare to travel to NC Central for a 4:00 p.m. game next Saturday.
