TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Willie Simmons has been hired as the next head football coach at Florida A&M University.

A source close to the family says Simmons accepted an offer from FAMU on Saturday. The university is set to hold a press conference to introduce Simmons at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Simmons comes to the Rattlers program after spending the past three seasons at Prairie View A&M, where he went a combined 21-11, finishing no worse than in third place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference's western division.

A native of Quincy, Simmons spent three years as the quarterback of the Clemson Tigers, totaling 2,410 yards and 14 touchdowns in 22 games with the program.

Simmons also spent time as a running backs coach and offensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee State and Alcorn State.

Simmons becomes FAMU's 18th head football coach.
