TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- In the ever-changing landscape of college athletics, things rarely stay the same. Florida State baseball is the rare exception. But for the first time in a long time, the winds of change began to blow at Dick Howser Stadium on Friday.

It all seemed so familiar; a chilly mid-winter afternoon, a field of freshly cut grass and players anxious to get back on the diamond.

But, while it was all familiar, for the first time in over four decades, it all felt finite; like it wouldn't last.

Friday, the feeling that Mike Martin's final season is upon us finally set in, a sense the Seminoles' skipper admitted to feeling as well.

"I woke up very early this morning and the first thing that popped in my mind was, for the first time in 45 years, I'm looking at something for the last time," Martin said on Friday. "And that last time was the first practice of the season."

A last hoorah filled with as much intrigue and as many questions as fond feelings and warm farewells.
