TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Florida State University announced Wednesday that the men's basketball team will open its season in Tallahassee against the University of Florida.

The game, which is slated for November 6, will mark the sixth time in school history and the first time since the 2001-02 season that the Seminoles have opened their season against the Gators.

“Any time Florida State plays Florida it’s a big game,” said FSU head coach Leonard Hamilton. “This is a game our players and our fans look forward to each year. To schedule our game against the Gators as the season opener for both teams makes it even more special because it’s the first time fans of both teams will have the chance to see their teams play.”

With the Seminoles’ 83-66 win in Gainesville last season, Hamilton has won eight games against the Gators – more than any other coach in Florida State history.

The Seminoles will be looking to defeat the Gators for a school-record fifth consecutive time.

FSU will play 16 homes games at the Donald L. Tucker Center this season.
