TALLAHASSEE, Fla (WCTV) - Florida State University has officially announced former Memphis head coach Mike Norvell as the 11th full-time head football coach, according to a press release from the university.

"I’m humbled and honored for the opportunity to be the head coach at Florida State University, one of the iconic brands in college football," Norvell says. "I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running, putting together a great signing class, a tremendous coaching staff and joining arms with our current and former players to help elevate our football program each and every day.”

Norvell was introduced in a press conference Sunday afternoon.

Athletic Director David Coburn confirmed to WCTV that Norvell will sign a six-year deal with the program. Additionally, Coburn says interim head coach and longtime assistant Odell Haggins will stay with the program.

WCTV has extensive team coverage on the hire. You can watch FSU's feed of the press conference introducing Norvell below.

Norvell guided the Memphis Tigers to a 38-15 record over four seasons, succeeding current Virginia Tech coach Justin Fuente in the role. Under his watch, the Tigers have won the last three AAC West division titles, capturing the conference championship this season.

Prior to his success at Memphis, the 38 year old gained a reputation as one of the sharpest offensive minds in major college football, serving as offensive coordinator for Todd Graham at Pittsburgh in 2011 and following him to Arizona State until heading to the Volunteer State at the end of the 2015 season.

In the last three seasons his high powered Tigers have lit up the scoreboard, ranking top 10 nationally in both yards per play and points per game.
