FINAL: FSU 7 - SYRACUSE 30
Thanks for hanging with me for that one. For our full recap, click here.
4th Quarter, 3:19 - FSU 7 - Syracuse 30
FSU attempted an errant onside kick after their touchdown which led to a short field for Syracuse and a 13-yard touchdown for Dontae Strickland.
Not much else to say, is there?
4th Quarter, 6:16 - FSU 7 - Syracuse 23
Our first points of the day are thanks to a two-yard QB keeper from Deondre Francois.
The Noles were bailed out by a pass interference call against Syracuse on a dropped pass at the front of the end zone on 4th and goal. A fresh set of downs was given to the Noles and they scored two plays later.
4th Quarter, 12:55 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 23
What else is there to say, honestly?
END OF THE THIRD QUARTER: FSU 0 - SYRACUSE 20
3rd Quarter, 1:36 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 20
A promising start to the drive stalls out near the FSU 40. Francois was able to scramble from the end zone and find DJ Matthews for a first down, but were unable to do just about anything else.
The third down woes continue, as the Noles are 0-for-10.
3rd Quarter, 4:59 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 20
A four-play drive makes it a 20-0 game for the Orange. Jarveon Howard took it 45 yards down the the Cuse three yardline before DeVito found Ravian Pierce in the endzone.
This...is hard to watch.
3rd Quarter, 4:59 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 13
Another three-and-out for the Noles in the drive following the Cuse touchdown. FSU is 0-for-9 on third downs today. Francois has 1.) had no time and 2.) has not attempted to avoid pressure in the pocket.
3rd Quarter, 6:55 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 13
We have the first touchdown of the game and it's courtesy of a Tommy DeVito - the Cuse backup quarterback - three-yard rush on third down.
For the first time today, the Noles defense breaks once the Orange get into the red zone.
'Cuse takes 3:27 off the clock, driving 64 yards in nine plays in the process.
Will the FSU have any response. At all.
3rd Quarter, 11:37 - FSU 0 - SYRACUSE 6
As the case has been all day, as the field gets shorter, the FSU defense gets stronger. It took five plays for Cuse to get inside the FSU red zone and after that, the Noles allowed nothing and forced the Orange to punt.
FSU with their first offensive series of the half coming up.
3rd Quarter, 15:00 - FSU 0 - SYRACUSE 6
Second half time! Woo!!
HALFTIME: FSU 0 - SYRACUSE 6
FSU put together a heck of a drive to get deep in Syracuse territory, going 53 yards in 1:40, but mismanaged the clock and were unable to get a field goal attempt on the field.
For the third straight game, FSU has yet to hold a first half lead.
2nd Quarter, 1:40 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 6
Syracuse drives to the FSU one-yardline but a strong defensive stand, the second one of the game for the Noles, from the shadow of their own endzone forces a field goal attempt for the Orange.
With 1:40 left before halftime, FSU trails 6-0 and has 62 total yards of offense.
2nd Quarter, 5:36 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 3
Francois can't get it above the arms of Christopher Fredrick as he aims for Tamorrion Terry for his first interception of the day.
2nd Quarter, 13:10 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 3
Cuse is rolling down field after being set up at their own 45, and Brian Burns is down on the field holding his leg.
Back-to-back long runs - an Eric Dungy 12-yard scramble and a 11-yard rush by Moe Neal - have set the Orange up at the FSU 34.
END OF THE FIRST QUARTER: FSU 0 - SYRACUSE 3
The FSU defense has been strong, mostly, but the offense has been...awful. The Noles have 35 yards of offense on 14 plays in the opening 15 minutes.
1st Quarter, 2:26 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 3
The no-turnover doesn't hurt FSU, as they get a huge sack and then force a field goal attempt, which is pushed wide left from 46 yards out.
1st Quarter, 3:40 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 3
After review, it's an incomplete.
Cuse will retain the ball.
I cannot say I agree with that call.
1st Quarter, 3:40 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 3
Kyle Myers blows up Nykeim Johnson on a screen play, Brian Burns recovers for the game's first turnover.
The officials are looking at it, but it looked like Johnson had possession before the ball was jarred loose.
If it stands, it's first down for FSU near midfield.
1st Quarter, 5:39 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 3
Deondre Francois has not had a break all night. He's been pressured every time he drops back, and has had little to no time to make reads and have a clean pocket.
The Noles have had three drives today so far and have run 10 total plays, including two three and outs.
Not a great start.
1st Quarter, 7:23 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 3
The Orange get a 22-yard field goal following a long, methodical drive that covered 76 yards in 5:05.
7:23 remains in the first quarter, #Noles trail 3-0
The drive was nearly stopped (though, still in field goal range) by FSU but a dumb personal foul after the play from Stanford Samuels kept the drive alive, but the Noles defense didn't break as Syracuse couldn't punch it in from around the FSU three yardline.
1st Quarter, 14:15 - FSU 0 - Syracuse 0
A two-yard Akers run, Francois got hit as he threw for an incompletion and then miscommunication on a deep ball leads to a quick three-and-out for FSU.
Hello, everyone! And happy Saturday. Welcome to week three for Florida State.
For the first time this year, they have a full week of preparation. Will the offense be able to find early success? Will the defense be able to stop Eric Dungey and the 'Cuse offensive attack? All of those questions, and more, will be answered here shortly.
