TALLAHASSEE, Fla (WCTV) -- It was announced Saturday morning that the baseball fields at Capital Park would be getting an upgrade.

It's all part of Major League Baseball's Refurbishment Program.

The fields at Capital Park were chosen in recognition of World Series Champion and Tallahassee native David Ross. The 15 year Major League catcher used to play on the same fields growing up.

"I think it also gives hope. I think it gives hope to the kids that see someone from this park that played baseball around here that actually went on and was able to play Major League Baseball and be fortunate like I was. And with a lot of fun and hard work and some great coaching from the coaches out here," said Ross.

The improvements to the fields include installing new turf and regrading the field. Upgrades will begin after the 2018 baseball season.
