MACON, Ga. (Dec. 9) - The FAMU Men's Basketball team got into a three-point shootout with the Mercer Bears here Saturday evening, dropping an 82-64 non-conference decision at Hawkins Arena.
FAMU finished the day splashing 12 of 23 shots from distance for a nifty 52.2 percent showing, while the Bears (6-4) managed to sink 14 of 29 from downtown.
The first half saw both teams come out blazing, as both clubs nearly hit 60 percent from long range. FAMU was 7 of 12 for 58.3 percent, while the Bears hit 9 of 15 for 60 percent. Mercer also fared a little better from the floor overall, shooting 53.6 [percent to FAMU's 45.8, which led to the home team holding a 47-31 halftime lead.
Both clubs cooled off in the second half, with FAMU hitting 5 of 11 from distance and Mercer only 5 of 14, but the Bears just edged out the Rattlers, 35-33 in the scoring column.
Senior guard Marcus Barham led FAMU with 21 points, as he was dialed in splashing seven of 11 shots from three-point range, Fellow senior Desmond Williams added 13 points and five rebounds, while Nick Severado added 10 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Elijah Mayes added nine points, going 3 of 4 from beyond the arc.
Ria'n Holland led the Bears with a game-hgih 24 points, cashing in 6 of 8 triples Saturday, while Stephon Jelks and Jordan Strawberryeach finished with 12 points. Jelks also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
