Hampton has been with Taggart at each of his previous head coaching ventures, spending two years at Western Kentucky, two years at South Florida and one year at Oregon.
FSU logged 905 yards of kick and punt returns in 2018 and one special teams touchdown, on a punt return from D.J. Matthews in the Noles' loss to Miami.
Football Outsiders ranked Florida State 95th in the country in S&P+ Special Teams, with a -0.8. Only Miami, Clemson and Boston College posted a worse categorical S&P+ in the ACC.
Hampton is the second member of Taggart's 2018 coaching staff to leave FSU, after offensive coordinator Walt Bell left to take the head coaching job at UMass in early December.
