TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Fans in Tallahassee are able to sleep well Thursday night after Florida State knocked off Vermont to advance to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.
On Thursday afternoon, Collegetown was full of fans who were gearing up to watch the Noles, but they weren't always feeling so optimistic.
Through the highs and lows of the game, Seminole fans, like Tim Zyla, witnessed a bit of a nail biter.
"My hopes were it wasn't going to be as close as it turned out to be," Zyla said. "I thought we would have a lot easier time this first round."
Some fans, like Rio Osborne, were just looking for the Seminoles to pull through with a win.
"I have a lot of friends that went to Vermont, so I definitely did not want to lose to Vermont," he said.
Others like Zyla say they are hoping for a long run in the tournament.
"At least Elite Eight," he said. "I mean, that's where we went last year. I think we have the team, I think we can go a little further, maybe make the Final Four, but Elite Eight would be good."
Jesse Wiland thinks that the team's performance during the game showed that a championship is not out of reach this year.
"I have them winning the national championship in my bracket, but I've done that for the last 10 years, so eventually they have to," he said.
After a first-round victory, fans are hoping that the team will make it far.
"I think this year we got the pieces right. We have a senior-laden team, we've got a couple of big players that are playing well together as a team," added Zyla.
The Noles will play their second round game on Saturday against Murray State.
