CARY, N.C. (WCTV) -- The Florida State Seminoles soccer team defeated the defending national champion Stanford Cardinal, 2-0, in the College Cup to punch their ticket to the national title game on Sunday.

With the victory, FSU snapped Stanford's 45-match winning streak and got revenge for being knocked out of last years tournament by the Cardinal.

The Noles struck first in the 29th minute off Gabby Carle's first goal of the season, taking the ball from the boundary line to the top of the goalie box and falling as she shot, finding the back of the net to give FSU a 1-0 lead.

FSU made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute off a strike from Malia Berkely that was misplayed by Alison Jahansouz and bounced in off her hands.

The Seminoles defense was stout, holding the Cardinal to a single shot on goal.

FSU moves on to play UNC, who took down Georgetown in double overtime, 1-0. The Seminoles beat UNC, 3-2, to claim the ACC crown earlier this month.

The Noles and Tar Heels will kick off the title game on Sunday at 1 p.m. If FSU wins, it'll be their second ever championship after claiming the 2014 crown.
