TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- FSU head coach Willie Taggart announced at practice Monday that Deondre Francois will be the starter for the Seminoles' season-opener against Virginia Tech next week.
Francois was slated to be the starter last season, but suffered a knee injury in the season opener against Alabama in Atlanta, causing him to miss the remainder of the 2017 campaign.
As a redshirt freshman in 2016, Francois threw for 3,350 yards and 20 touchdowns with a 58.8 percent completion percentage.
The Orlando native beat out sophomore James Blackman, who was named the starter last year after Francois went down with injury, and true freshman Bailey Hockman for the starting job.
FSU opens their 2018 season, the first under Willie Taggart, on Labor Day at Doak Campbell Stadium against Virginia Tech. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.
