TAYLOR COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) -- Maurice Besler, the Taylor County High School head football coach and Athletic Director, has resigned following a Sunday night parent/player meeting.

TCHS Principal Charles Finley released a statement on Sunday, saying that this is an "extremely emotional time for all of those involved."

The school says the football schedule will remain the same and that the team will continue to work out and practice on Monday.

Principal Finley says there is nothing more important than "upholding the high expectations that we have set for our students and and our school community."

Superintendent Danny Glover said the county will follow personnel policies, so no games will be cancelled.

"A very unfortunate event," Glover said. "You never want something like this to happen, wish it were different time of year."

On Monday, Glover told WCTV Sports Director Kevin Keane that he will be taking over as interim head coach of the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs will open the regular season on Friday against Dixie County at TCHS.
