TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The first two weeks of the season haven’t gone exactly according to plan for FSU.
While there’s a plenty of concern about the ‘Noles heading in to the heart of conference play, there’s a growing concern about the comment section.
We’re two weeks into the college football season and FSU hasn’t looked good. You know it, I know it and so does Willie Taggart.
"Everybody's not going to be happy when you just don't play the way everyone wants you to play, and that's just part of it. That's why this game is so great, you have so many critics,” said Taggart.
How the Seminoles have played on the field is concerning, and the criticism of how Florida State players have acted off of it is also raising some red flags.
Social media has slammed the 'Noles for the team's uniform choices, music playlist and even what they use as motivation. But, these were all things fans were clamoring for not too long ago.
The fans wanted a culture change following a two-year span where FSU went .500 in ACC play.
Fans have clamored for more uniform combinations like Bobby Bowden’s Seminoles of old. And, they wanted a program that players were more invested in.
Well, they got it.
But, when the culture wasn’t just like the 1990’s, when the uniforms weren’t your favorite and when the playlist at Doak Campbell wasn’t quite what was on your iPod, some acted far less mature than a locker room full of mostly teenagers.
You remember when you were a teenager, right? Chances are your parents didn’t understand everything you did, but as long as it was good healthy fun, it wouldn’t be right to insult.
Just like it isn’t right to call players an embarrassment for appearing to have fun playing a child’s game, or to bully players and staff on social media.
Is “securing the bag” goofy to many? Sure.
Is all black FSU’s best look? Maybe not.
Are there just as many fans in Doak Campbell who would rather hear “Surfin’ USA” than Swag Surfin’?” I’m sure there are.
But while the team’s effort on the field may not be what everyone signed up for, their attitude off the field is.
They didn’t get rid of anything that makes FSU, FSU. They just added some of what makes them, them.
It doesn’t hurt you, it doesn’t hurt me, it’s just different. And after all, isn’t different what everybody wanted?
