The Park Avenue United Methodist Church is sponsoring a community-wide church camp out called Homeless-4-A-Night to benefit Valdosta's LAMP shelter.

Participants young and old are invited to sleep on the church's outdoor playground.

Sleeping bags can be brought, but as for food, participants will find that in a clean trash bin.

"Your cookies will be in the trash can, your drinks will be in a trash can and not just to make light of what homeless people go through, but at the same time to let you recognize that for some people that is a reality. That is their shopping cart. That is their restaurant," said Jamie Bone, the director of Lay Ministries.

The church camp out starts the evening of March 6, 2009, and lasts through the morning of March 7th, culminating with a group breakfast inside the church.

The church is looking for teams of four people to sign up and raise $50 per person.
