THOMASVILLE, Ga. -- A 5th grader at Thomas County Middle School is taking his talents to the national level.

Campbell Smith recently completed the online Math-Con competition. He was the only one in his school to make a score high enough to compete in the national competition.

Recently, the school learned he's the only 5th grader in the entire peach state to have a qualifying score.

We asked Campbell what's his favorite thing about math, this was his answer.

“There's always a right answer. It’s cool, I get to represent my school system as well as Georgia," Campbell said.

His teacher, Teresa Rieber, will be going with Campbell to Nationals, she said she’s extremely proud.

"It’s amazing. I mean you take everything that you try to teach them and you realize they've got it, and it;s the ah ha moment of why we do teach; it’s like our highlight," Rieber said.

Smith will compete in the final round in Chicago, Illinois on April 23rd.
