Family members of the late Aquilina Howell, community leaders and residents were celebrating in the street, which is now named in her honor.
Howell worked in the Leon County School district for 43 years and was the first woman ever appointed as Assistant Superintendent.
"She was just a delightful woman. I wish that the young people of today could meet her. She never met a stranger," said Sonya Bradford, Howell's daughter.
Howell grew up just three doors down from the newly named street. Friday, December 11th, her family members thanked the city leaders for making this possible, saying they know she is smiling down on everyone.
