Police arrested Sunshine Jacobs-Fenimore in March. She worked at the Magnolia School on West Tharpe Street.

A 12-year-old child at the school allegedly told Jacobs and two other teachers that she had been sexually abused. The teachers are accused of not notifying the Department of Children and Families.

The other two teachers, Kathleen McGlynn and Sharon McQueen, are still awaiting trial.

The man who was convicted of sexually abusing the girl, 68-year-old Jack Arons, has already been sentenced to 25 years behind bars.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A third local teacher accused of failing to report child abuse has been arrested, and the suspect himself is also behind bars.

This comes after two other teachers from The Magnolia School on West Tharpe Street in Tallahassee were also arrested last month.

62-year-old Sharon McQueen was arrested this morning. She is charged with failure to report child abuse, neglect and abandonment. Police reports say that in January, a girl at the school told one of the women that she was being sexually abused.

The teachers then met with the girl's family to draw up a safety plan to prevent future abuse, but did not report the alleged abuse to the Department of Children and Families Hotline, as required by law.

The man accused of sexually abusing that student is now behind bars. 68-year-old Jack Arons is charged with 4 counts of lewd and lascivious molestation and one count of cruelty toward a child.

Arons had a first appearance in court this morning and was denied bond.

News Release: Tallahassee Police Department
March 26, 2015

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- In 2012, Chapter 39 of Florida Statute took effect and states: Any person who knows, or has reasonable cause to suspect, that a child is abused, abandoned, or neglected by a parent, legal custodian, caregiver, or other person responsible for the child’s welfare, as defined in this chapter, or that a child is in need of supervision and care and has no parent, legal custodian, or responsible adult relative immediately known and available to provide supervision and care shall report such knowledge or suspicion to the Department of Children and Families. Certain occupations, such as physicians, social workers, foster care, teachers or other professional childcare workers are required to report the suspected abuse and leave their names with the hotline. Any allegations a child was or is being abused or neglected by a caregiver will be investigated by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) in conjunction with local law enforcement. Failure to report the suspected abuse or neglect to DCF is a third degree felony.

In January of 2015, a juvenile victim reported that she was being sexually abused to staff members at The Magnolia School, located at 2705 West Tharpe Street. The school officials at The Magnolia School did not report the suspected abuse to DCF or the Tallahassee Police Department but instead, developed a “safety plan” for the student which included the victim, suspect and victim’s mother. The “safety plan” was never conveyed to outside agencies and did not include any notification to DCF. The Tallahassee Police Department was made aware of the continuing abuse in March of 2015 due to a third party contacting DCF because the victim had reported a new instance of abuse by the suspect. TPD then began an investigation into the abuse and the non-reporting by the school personnel.

Today, warrants for Sunshine Jacobs and Kathleen McGlynn have been obtained by the Tallahassee Police Department for Failure to Report Child Abuse. Ms. Jacobs and Ms. McGlynn are both staff members at The Magnolia School on West Tharpe Street.
