Deputy Rhames had pulled over to help the driver of a broken down vehicle. The incident occurred around the city limit in Quitman. Funck was driving to work in Valdosta when he struck Deputy Rhames on the side of the road. Funck was not injured.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the case. The Valdosta Police Department confirmed that Funck was issued a citation for the accident. We spoke with the VPD. Funck did not leave the scene and was not charged with anything.

Their office administered a standard drug test for Funck because he was driving a city vehicle. They've made it clear they will fully cooperate with the investigation which is ongoing. Deputy Rhames was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville. He's suffered a shattered leg but is in fair condition and expected to make a full recovery.

Because the case is still under investigation we do not have additional details at this time. The Georgia State Patrol will release all other information when the investigation is completed.
