TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Walmart on Apalachee Parkway was full of police officers and kids on Monday, for FAMU's Shop with a Cop event.
Meeting with the kids for Shop with a Cop, Officer Darion Scott said "Toys, clothes, whatever you've got."
It's a tough decision. Looking at all the options, Officer Scott said, "A lot of toys to choose from, huh?"
After searching, this trio finds the perfect present.
Officer Scott said, "We just found our first two toys. Yeah, good job man!"
This is the second year for FAMU's Shop with a Cop event.
19 kids paired with officers, ready to lend a helping hand to young people who wouldn't normally get gifts like this.
Officer Jessie Small said, "Helping kids out when you've been there, knowing that the smallest thing helps a parent receive a sense of normality again."
The event does something else-- builds an everlasting bond.
Officer Scott said, "Just having a good time, and letting them see that police officers, we really are good guys."
Ask the children, and they'll tell you it's a very special experience.
"Officer Scott, he's pretty cool and he helps me out a lot."
Some children even told us they want to be police officers now.
One child, when asked why he wanted to become a police officer, said, "Because cops are nice."
Not just shopping with a cop, but spending time with their heroes.
