Arrest Made in Fatal Hit and Run

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- An arrest has been made in connection with a fatal hit and run early Wednesday morning.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to the area of Crawfordville Road and Slash Pine Lane around 2:10 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputies say 38-year-old Stephanie Lindsey was struck by a vehicle in the southbound lane of Crawfordville Road. Her body was found in the roadway.

On Thursday, the Leon County Sheriff's Office received an anonymous tip regarding the location of a vehicle possibly involved in the crash.

Deputies from the Traffic Homicide Unit located the vehicle and observed damage consistent with the evidence collected at the scene.

The vehicle owner was identified as 56-year-old Willie Gandy III. Deputies questioned Gandy regarding the crash. Gandy admitted to being involved in a crash and striking a person.

Gandy was subsequently arrested for leaving the scene of a traffic crash involving death.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to the area of Crawfordville Road and Slash Pine Lane around 2:10 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputies say 38-year-old Stephanie Lindsey was hit in the southbound lane of Crawfordville Road. Her body was found in the roadway.

LCSO says the incident is currently being investigated as a hit and run fatality.

The southbound lane of Crawfordville Road near Slash Pine Lane and Rehwinkle Drive was closed as of 4:45 a.m. Wednesday. LCSO says traffic in the area is being diverted.
