TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Leon County Sheriff's Office says an inmate has died at the Leon County Jail.

According to LCSO, 65-year-old Willie C. White was found in distress and choking Wednesday morning, shortly after receiving his morning meal.

LCSO says correctional officers, medical staff and paramedics attempted life-saving techniques on White, but he did not survive,

Preliminary autopsy results indicate that White died as a result of choking on a piece of his food.

Deputies say White was being housed in the jail’s medical facility due to his medical history and multiple hospitalizations during his incarceration.

"While this investigation is continuing, there are no indications of any criminal activity surrounding White’s death," a press release from LCSO states.

White had most recently been charged with battery on an law enforcement officer in June and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in April.
