TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- One of Willie Meggs' top prosecutors has announced plans to run for State Attorney in Florida's 2nd Judicial Circuit District in 2016.
Assistant state attorney Jack Campbell made his official bid to run for the soon-to-be-vacated seat Tuesday. It comes one day after Meggs announced he wouldn't be seeking re-election.
Campbell is the son of the late Leon County Sheriff Larry Campbell.
The assistant state attorney says he knows the Tallahassee community and is ready to adapt to the changing times.
"The world is a different place. We don't have pedophiles walking around on playgrounds as much, but we have them in chatrooms, and that's a definite change," Campbell said. "The technology and the communication is where I see a change in our community."
Campbell has worked as the assistant State Attorney since 2001. He attended the Florida State University College of Law.
Tallahassee attorney Sean Desmond plans to run as a Democrat and is the only other candidate who has announced a bid for the seat at this time.
