TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Folks in Tallahassee are going shopping for a great cause. It's the annual 'Whale of a Sale' fundraiser, hosted by the Junior League of Tallahassee. The event features gently used merchandise at low prices.
This year, the event is being held at the Centre of Tallahassee, right next to Bath & Body Works.
The event kicked off at 5 p.m. today with a Preview Party sale. It continues tomorrow, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Proceeds from the event benefit Junior League of Tallahassee projects, including Operation Prom Dress -- which outfits students from Gretchen Everhart School for Exceptional Students and local, deserving teens with prom attire -- and Kids Boutique -- which provides back-to-school clothes and supplies to children in need.
The sale is not only a fundraiser for the Junior League's projects, but also gives community members the opportunity to buy much needed items at affordable prices.
Each year, the event attracts approximately 500 people to the Preview Party event Friday evening and approximately 3,000 to the Saturday sale.
