Tar Heels hope off week leads to gains against FSU

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina spent its off week
working on correcting all the little mistakes that had plagued the
Tar Heels through the first six games.
Coach Butch Davis says the Tar Heels (4-2, 0-2 Atlantic Coast
Conference) used the time following the Georgia Southern victory to
do what he described as self-scouting. Much of that focus had to be
on the offense, which has struggled to put points on the board and
move the football on the ground.
Quarterback T.J. Yates says the offense had one of its best
practices of the year Sunday and is eager to face Florida State on
Thursday night.
The Tar Heels also announced Monday that freshmen A.J. Blue and
Jamal Womble are lost for the season with injuries. Both players
had surgery Friday.
