Tallahassee, FL - Tallahassee Community College’s Bernard James and Marvell Waithe earned all-America honors on Thursday when the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced its Division I Men’s Basketball Preseason All-Americans.
James, a 6-foot-10 center, earned a spot on the second-team while the 6-foot-9 Waithe was a third-team selection.
James, a native of Savannah, Ga., averaged 12.7 points and 8.8 rebounds as a freshman while Waithe, who hails from Toronto, Ontario, averaged a team-high 18.9 points and pulled down 8.6 rebounds per game.
In Panhandle Conference play, the duo combined to average 33.0 points and 18.8 rebounds. Following the season, both players were named first-team All-PC by league coaches and are the only two first-teamers who will suit up in the PC in 2009-10.
Earlier in the month, James and Waithe were named to Basketball Times’ Sweet Sixteen, a list of the top 16 junior college sophomores nationwide. James was later named a second-team Super Sophomore in the Sporting News’ JUCO Report while Waithe was a fourth-team pick.
The Eagles will open the 2009-10 season at 8 p.m., Thursday, November 5 when they host Middle Georgia College in the Wing Zone Tip-Off Classic.
