Greensoboro, NC - Georgia Tech senior forward Brigitte Ardossi earned this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, voted on by the ACC Blue Ribbon Panel. Ardossi led the 25th-ranked Yellow Jackets to wins over Miami and Virginia Tech.
“Brigitte is having a very special senior year,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “This recognition is very well deserved. She has been the key to our success on both ends of the floor.”
Ardossi put up a monster game against Miami, tying her career-high with 29 points and grabbing a career-best 17 rebounds in the overtime victory (80-73). The senior went 11-for-13 from the charity stripe and added one steal and one block in the winning effort. Ardossi followed that performance with a 15-point, seven-rebound outing against Virginia Tech, both games at home. She was a perfect five-for-five from the free throw line, adding two assists and one steal.
The Melbourne, Australia, native has scored in double-figures in 21-of-23 games this season, including 16 straight. She is also shooting a conference-best .830 (93-112) from the free throw line this season. In Tech’s seven ACC games, she has taken her game to a new level, averaging 18.9 points and 8.9 rebounds. Those marks are good for third and second in the league, respectively.
Ardossi, who earned her first career ACC weekly honor, is the first Yellow Jacket to be named ACC Player of the Week since Chioma Nnamaka received the award on Feb. 4, 2008.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action Friday when they travel to Maryland. The game will be televised on the ACC Regional Sports Network (Fox Sports South in Atlanta) and is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m.
