Bill in Florida Legislature looks at guardianship for elders

Gov. Ron DeSantis filed a new congressional map ahead of Florida's special session seeking to redraw the state's district lines. On May 11, 2022, a Leon County judge announced he'll block this map, saying the map was unconstitutional because it breaks up a district where Black voters can choose their representatives.

The Florida Legislature returned to Tallahassee Tuesday for a special session on redistricting, and lawmakers were met by a large crowd of protesters saying a new congressional map will silence Black voters.

Lawmakers are going to let Gov. Ron DeSantis design the state’s new congressional lines, after he vetoed their initial proposal and called them back to Tallahassee for a special legislative session to draw a new map.
