Body found in submerged vehicle confirmed to be missing elderly man

THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) -- Authorities have confirmed that a body found inside of a submerged vehicle in Thomas County is that of a missing elderly man.

The body was discovered after the car was located and pulled out of a river just off of Dollar Store Road in Ochlocknee.

Authorities have identified the man as 72-year-old Marvin Beiler.

Crews first began searching in the area on Wednesday morning after Beiler's family reported him missing.

THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) -- Authorities in Thomas County are searching for a missing elderly man.

The Thomas County Sheriff's Office, the Thomasville Police Department, the Swift Water Rescue Team and the Thomasville-Thomas County Dive Team are currently on the scene off of Dollar Store Road in Ochlocknee.

Teams are focusing on a river in the area because fresh tire tracks indicate that a vehicle traveled off the road and into the water.

The search began after the man's family reported him missing around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities say the man had not been seen since the weekend but had been heard from since then.

Officials have not yet released the missing man's identity.
