VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) – Valdosta Police say three teenagers have been arrested after being found in possession of a stolen vehicle and guns.
Valdosta Police Department road patrol officers responded to a call about a suspicious car with multiple passengers in the 1700 block of Norman Drive around 5 p.m. on June 2. The car was spotted driving through the parking lot of a local retailer.
Officers determined the blue Honda Accord had been reported stolen at the end of May. The license plate was discovered to have been stolen from another car that was reported stolen in early June.
A K-9 unit started tracking the occupants of the stolen car. Police say the three subjects emerged from the woods and began running away from police.
According to arrest documents, two of the three subjects were carrying guns along with other tools used for breaking into cars. The guns were later determined to have been stolen from Valdosta on June 1.
The suspects were identified as 18-year-old Robert Burr, 18-year-old Kenyon Stancil, and 15-year-old juvenile.
Both men and the juvenile were charged with felonies and misdemeanors, including theft by receiving stolen property and obstruction.
“I am very proud of the quick actions of the officers in this case. However, this incident illustrates a continuing problem where we have young people who are not being supervised by their parents/legal guardians. And to make things worse, these young people now have a felony criminal arrest on their record," stated Chief Brian Childress.
