VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- The phrase 'empowered women empower women' rang true Friday at Valdosta State University.
Valdosta State held a 'Seat at the Table' women's leadership luncheon and panel Friday in honor of International Women's Day.
Local leaders, both on campus and off, shared advice to a room full of students. The panel included women leaders, from members of law enforcement, attorneys, finance directors, and city councilwoman.
WCTV's Abby Walton also took part in the panel, encouraging young women to succeed and pursue their dreams.
"I think in our culture we have difficulty encouraging and empowering one another. It's always about this idealistic perspective of what a woman should be. We come in all shapes, colors, sizes, religion, sexual orientation, and we all have something to bring to the table. I think the earlier we learn that the better," said Sandra YG Jones, Director of Student Diversity and Inclusion at VSU.
This is the university's first panel like this. Organizers plan to make it an annual event.
