VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- The Valdosta community prepared to show off their dancing shoes Friday.
First Baptist Church downtown Valdosta hosted the Night to Shine prom on Friday. The annual event celebrates individuals with special needs.
This is the third year First Baptist Church is hosting the event. Volunteers spent the entire week setting up, filling the room with yellow and blue in honor of these special guests.
"Families and caregivers in the special needs community, they get told 'no' a lot. There's a lot of things they aren't able to participate in, aren't able to do because of their limitations. At this event we really try and say 'yes' to everything, let them have their yes," said event coordinator Erica Stone.
More then 300 people are expected to attend the event in Valdosta. Organizers said they plan to be back every year.
