VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Another candidate has joined the race for Valdosta's next mayor.

Kevin Bussey kicked off his campaign for Valdosta mayor on Saturday. The 14-year army veteran was born and raised in Valdosta.

Bussey said the biggest change he wants to see is unity. The candidate wants the community to do a better job of working together and hopes to get more young people involved in the city they live in.

"We want to make this city for everybody, even the downtown area. We harp a lot on the VSU students, but we want to make it accessible for everybody," Bussey said. "Every genre, every ethnicity, we just want to make sure that we're doing everything in a more collaborative effort. Even when it goes down to the county, we want to make sure that we have a collaborative effort with the county to making this city great."

Bussey joins former Valdosta Fire Chief J.D. Rice, and longtime radio show host Scott James in the mayor's race.

Voters will hit the ballot box in November. Current Mayor John Gayle has said he does not plan to run for re-election.
