VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- Valdosta State University has hired a new head coach for its championship football team, and it has people around campus talking.

The Blazers are coming off an undefeated season, taking home the NCAA Division II title. New coach Gary Goff was welcomed back to VSU Tuesday, but it wasn't without some mixed feelings from fans.

"I was like, wow, he looks so young, but hopefully he will lead us to another championship," said student Tristan Bingham.

Goff, a former wide receiver for the Blazers, will now lead a team that remains the pride and joy of Valdosta State.

"I was kind of a little iffy, a little skeptical about it at first, but hey, you got to give everybody a chance," said student Nick Davis.

Davis attended every home game last season, and hopes Goff can bring the same energy as the team had through 2018.

"I think there's going to be some growing pains with the new coach, new system," Davis said. "I still feel like they're going to be a pretty solid football team."

"I hope we receive the same amount of fans, a lot of wins, and we also bring home another championship," said Jordan Shell, another Blazer fan. "It's kind of crazy with the amazing year that we had in football. Undefeated season of course, winning the championship, bringing a ring home. I don't know how that's really going to affect us."

Still a long ways from the 2019 season, Blazer Nation said they are ready and they're not going anywhere.
